Teaser:Roxy discovers that Paw Elementary School is having a dental clinic day and she’s very nervous. What will happen during Roxy’s first visit to the dentist? What will they do to her teeth? And what are all of those scary tools they use? Go on an adventure with Roxy as she talks to her family and friends about the dentist and see how she overcomes her fears in this adorable and educational children’s book.

Our goal with this website was to find the new and undiscovered authors and illustrators and give them a new audience. So, what do we look for? A picture book should be beautiful. The pictures should be inviting and keep a child’s attention. Under that, a lesson can be introduced without preaching its point. Books like Potty Fairy Princessand I’m a Big Sister!were some of our household favorites for just that reason.

Sometimes, timing just works out just perfectly. Just over a month ago, Paw Elementary: Roxy's Adventure to the School Dentistwon our Fall Cover Award. Only myself on the panel knew that our three-year-old was about to take a trip to the dentist herself, just this past week. Although it wasn’t her first trip to the dentist, the idea was still uncomfortable. She is used to brushing and flossing herself, so why was someone else going to do this for her? Que up the story of Roxy as a great primer for her experience.

Katie Melko is a dental hygienist with a Masters degree in Science. She is a children’s book author and a writer and enjoys working in public health. Paw Elementaryis Katie’s newest book about her beloved Roxy.

Through the story, Katie shows the fears, rumors, and worries that every kid goes through when thinking about the dentist. Roxy’s brother Mason, acting like a typical brother, did not make her feel any better with his story of what the dentist would do. But as Roxy got closer to her turn in the chair, she noticed no one else was scared. In fact, the other pups seemed to be happy! Then with the hygienist Tide and Dr. Harley, Roxy finds that the whole experience turned out to be fun and easy. With Roxy’s smile walking out of the dentist, our daughter walked in to her appointment confident and brave!

And because Roxy knows hygienists and dentists are here to help keep your smile bright, she’ll be looking forward to the next adventure to see the dentist.

Roksana Oslizlo is a freelance illustrator based in the UK. She finished Art School in Poland and specialize in children's book illustration and graphic design. She works with aspiring authors and helps them breathe life into their visions.

Roksana’s artwork is what drew us to this story. The colors are bright and vibrant, and the characters show their emotions through the pages. Our kids loved the brushstroke style that you could almost feel they’re so lively. Each page would be a piece of art on its own to decorate any kids room.

If this isn’t enough to have your ordering the book, click on the book cover to go to authors Katie Melko’s website now!
